CEO Dan Clancy recently conveyed news through a published blog post, incorporating the internal email distributed to employees. "I want to express my deep appreciation for the employees we are parting with today – for their personal and professional contributions. I thank them sincerely for all they've done to support our community," Clancy mentioned in the blog.

"Rest assured that Twitch continues to be committed to our streamers, and we are dedicated to making this platform the premier destination for live streaming for years ahead."

The accompanying email reveals that the layoffs will affect slightly more than 500 individuals. "Today is going to be tough. The purpose of our service is to enable communities to come together in creation, and each of you has been instrumental in nurturing our community and advancing that purpose," he noted.

Clancy cited the need for sustainability as the cause of the job cuts, stating: "In the past year, our focus has been on creating a more enduring business model for Twitch to ensure its longevity. Throughout this time, we've made cuts and various strategic decisions to enhance our efficiency. Regrettably, these measures haven't sufficiently downsized our organization, which remains substantially larger than it should be relative to the scale of our operations."
